Shirley H. Loftis
Mary Pinckney Ouzts #1  D-1

On January 14, 1950, I was born in Clinton, South Carolina, the second child of Ruby France Bailey and Jerry Lamar Harris. I have 2 sisters and 4 brothers. I attended several schools and received my GED in 1982. I furthered my education at Piedmont Technical College where I received my degree in Accounting and Office Management.

I married at the early age of 17, to Joseph S Ledford and together we had one child Amanda Leigh.  After a divorce,  I remarried in 1979 to Glenn Woolery.  This is when I had a life changing experience. I was able to petition the Order of the Eastern Star. I was initiated in 1982, and my adventure started. I held several stations before I was elected as Associate Conductress and advanced to Worthy Matron in 1987 – 1988.  After Glenn’s death in 1990, I moved to Greenwood to be with my family again.  In 2000, I was introduced to Winston “Jerry” Loftis by my friends, Linda Lamb, PGM and Beth Traynham. We married April 21, 2001, with family and friends in attendance.

After finishing my education in 1995, I demitted from Wade Hampton Chapter #288, in District Three (3) to Callie Self Chapter # 199, in District One (1) where I once again held the station of Worthy Matron. With the consolidation of Callie Self #199 and Mary Pinckney Ouzts # 1, I became a member of Mary Pinckney Ouzts # 1.

I have held many different appointments in Grand Chapter.  My very first Grand Chapter appointment was for Margaret Poston and Hal Keasler as a Grand Page in 1987 - 1988.  In 2002 – 2003, Sister Ferne Launius and Brother Harold Munn honored me with the appointment of Grand Representative to Connecticut. In 2005 – 2006, Sister Pat Conner and Brother Paul Shealy asked me to serve as their Grand Esther in 2005 -2006.

My greatest honor was when I was elected as Associate Grand Conductress of this Order in 2007.  I have enjoyed serving this Grand Jurisdiction and I hope to serve this next year to the best of my ability. These last three years have been filled with joy, with old and new friendship, and with love and support for all that I strive to do.  As I progressed through these stations I sincerely hope that I have up held the principals of our Order.  The Order of the Eastern Star has been a great influence in my life. The sisters and brothers that I have met in the Order of the Eastern Star have all bonded together and helped me through this journey of my life (the good and the bad) and for this I am truly grateful. These wonderful friends have made a lasting impression on me.  I pray to be able to continue in serving this Grand Jurisdiction with honor, humility and with love of the Order as God would have me do.
